Progress for A04

To start I used the surface of a piped spiral (xcosx and xsinx) and a pyramid module.

In this iteration I changed the radius of the pipe from 2 to .2 and the height of the box from 3 to 1.

Starting again from the original code, I changed the height of the box from 3 to 10.

Here I changed the equations to cosx and sinx and changed the u and v count of the surface divide.

Lastly, I changed the domain of the initial range of points in order to emphasize the hollow aspect of the form I created.

Grasshopper Practice 1

This is my first practice assignment with Grasshopper: Generating 10 primitive geometries using simple scripts.

Updates from A03

I realized as we were presenting our projects that my partitions system did not have a thickness.  A well-designed structure won't do me any good if it doesn't actually exist! So I went back and remade my 3-D grids, this time making the structure more realistic.

Paneling Tools Practice

Final Laser Cut for Project 2

Project 2 Final Board

This is the final board for my Project 2.  I am still trying to learn what looks best in terms of spacing and colors.  I think that in this case the color I chose was too pastel-like.  I also tried to use light line weights since I was heavily criticized on Project one for having thick lines and dark letters.  This project gave me a great foundation of knowledge for using contour and section commands on Rhino and constructing 3-D models using the laser cutter.

First attempt at laser cutting the cube!

Here is my first attempt at laser cutting the cube.  Unfortunately it didn't go as well as I hoped.  Apparently the chip board I used is a little smaller than 1/16th of an inch, so it is too small for the notches that I cut and my pieces just fall apart! I think I'm going to make each of the notches smaller in rhino and just cut the vertical ribs again.  But if anyone has better suggestions that would be great!

Progress for A02

I  figured out how to make these radial waffles using section cuts, now I just need to make some minor alignment adjustments before I laser cut.  Each of the radial ribs will have very thin pieces, so I hope the chipboard is strong enough to stay together.
